Participants are allowed to bring up to 10 bisque fired pots to fire during the workshop. Studio will provide glazes and horse hair. New in 2013, preview the new works and new member artists of the Blue Coast Artists. Come and enjoy the countryside during the lush green spring. The plants are emerging as well as the new art created by the artists over the winter months. Enjoy the fresh new artwork and a behind the scenes look in the studios of the member artists.

Developing Surfaces: Screen Printing on Clay

The objects that Israel makes are based upon a series of memories and childhood dreams. At their basic core they represent the freedom and possibilities of youth. Through process and contemplation, these recollections have become physical visions of past, present, and future.
This hands-on workshop provides instruction and information on screen-printing with slips and underglazes onto clay slabs used to construct functional objects. Students will gain some hands on experience printing onto leather hard clay slabs and demonstration on how to produce a screen in a DIY setting.
$40 non-refundable deposit, remainder due 30 days prior to event.

Porcelain clay is a very fluid, smooth, and responsive
medium. Mary enjoys working with its white surface
which gives depth of color to the glaze. Her newest work
explores the aesthetic and function of a piece. She decorates each object with rich glazes, using pattern to emphasize the form. She challenges herself to make each piece aesthetically
pleasing as well as appropriate to its use.

Dawn has been making custom mugs & accessories for
local breweries and wanted to share with the Homebrewers.

Friday evening slide show presentation - Free
This hands-on workshop will focus on cone 6 glazes. Participants will create a series of test tiles of base glazes with a variety of colorants. Tests will be fired prior to the workshop in a Oxidation and Reduction environment. The results will be a comprehensive testing of various properties of glaze making materials and their results. John and participants will review and discuss the entire series of test tiles. Participants will gain an understanding of glazes, their properties and results in both oxidation and reduction.
Participants need to make a series of test tiles and ship/deliver to the studio 20 days prior to the workshop. You will have specific instructions on how to make your 1000 gram test batch, upon signing up for this workshop.
Participants may choose to have the studio make their test batch and tiles prior to the workshop for an additional $30 fee. 30 day notice prior to workshop required.

24th Annual Blue Coast Artists Fall Tour of Studios

7th Annual Lakeshore Harvest Country - Road Rally Saturday, October 12th

Play with Clay -
$25 per person. Advance reservations required. Have you ever wondered what it is like to create pottery on the wheel? This two-hour mini class is perfect for those who would like an to acquaint themselves with the medium of clay....or can be used as a means to possibly improve throwing techniques if already experienced in clay. Instruction, materials and tools included. Due to the nature of the process it is not feasible to bring home your work created during this one-time class (arrangements for work can be made with larger groups). Adults only please, unless afamily or group of 4 or more reserves the day. Please dress to get dirty.
